Dr. María Calixta Ortiz-Rivera is a Puerto Rico born Latina. She has a BS, a MS and a PhD in Epidemiology. She is an associate professor at Ana G. Méndez University. She is a professional editor that has worked for the newspaper La Regata (1997-2017) and the journal Perspectives on Environmental Affairs (2012-present). She is a columnist for the newspaper El Nuevo Día. She was awarded the Kika de la Garza Award in 2019 by the US Department of Agriculture. She writes about women’s perceptions and is the author of the book De Meno Odiosa a Meno Diosa. María Calixta is an ambassador for women and menopause.
