Joana, a Luso-American Latina, was born in Portugal, moved to Venezuela when she was two years old, and lived in the United States since 2005. She has a Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Medicine, a Master of Art in Translation and Interpreting Studies, and a Master of Public Health with a concentration in Health Education. She has worked in healthcare, education, public health, and Diversity/inclusion settings for over ten years. In 2021, Joana founded Culturizing Access to reduce disparities, increase access, and improve the quality of services provided to Latinos, especially the Limited-English Proficiency communities, using culturally linguistic strategies.
